7 March 2005 –Trek Unveils First of its Kind Solutions

Two of the four solutions are the first to be introduced in the world.

Mainboard listed engineering services provider, Trek 2000 International Ltd (“Trek” or “the Group”) today unveils four new solutions that it will be introducing at the forthcoming CEBIT exhibition in Hanover, Germany.

The four new solutions from Trek are:
1. ThumbDrive® Swipe Armour
2. ThumbDrive® Portable Operating System
3. ThumbDrive® 0.85-inch hard disk drive
4. A New High Speed ThumbDrive®

ThumbDrive® Swipe Armour
The first of its kind in the world to date, the ThumbDrive® Swipe Armour is a solution whose system incorporates at least four Trek solutions where patents have been filed. The patent of one of the four solutions, the biometrics, was approved two years ago. Built upon the concept of a Central Management System (“CMS”), the function of the ThumbDrive® Swipe Armour is to help organizations protect its information by delineating different levels of information access for different employees. This is the first device in the world where the CMS is incorporated into an external USB device.

Presently organizations are protecting their information database by using passwords as a gateway. Unfortunately, passwords in themselves are no longer sufficient security as trespassers easily hack into computer systems. On the other hand, while biometrics are fast gaining popularity in the world as an alternative to password protection, the usage of biometrics until now are restricted simply to reading and identifying users only. Before the introduction of the ThumbDrive® Swipe Armour, the biometrics capability has not extended to the advanced mode of information access and management. The latest development by Trek to expand the biometrics capability has enabled the ThumbDrive® Swipe Armour to not only use biometrics as an identification mechanism but it will also prevent illegal access and unauthorized copying of information by respective authorized personnel.

In a corporate environment, the biometrics capabilities in the ThumbDrive® Swipe Armour will serve as one of the gateways to authorize and monitor the level of access by individual employees. Similarly, in the event the ThumbDrive® Swipe Armour is lost or stolen, its biometrics feature will prevent third parties from accessing information contained in the device. With the introduction of the ThumbDrive® Swipe Armour, organizations now have a new solution available to help them protect and discern information access by their employees.

ThumbDrive® Portable Operating System
The ThumbDrive® Portable Operating System (“OS”) is another first in the world by Trek. Embedded within this device are two key characteristics - Operating System Difference and Software Difference. The Operating System Difference in the ThumbDrive® enables the user to transport his preferred operating system in the ThumbDrive®. When on the move, the user can plug his ThumbDrive® Portable OS into another computer and access his operating system. Whilst the Software Difference ensures that when plugged into other computers, the operating system in the ThumbDrive® does not affect the operating system of the computer into which the ThumbDrive® is plugged. This way all parties can share computers yet protect their own respective information. In addition to the features mentioned above, being a solid state device, the ThumbDrive® Portable OS has a speedier boot up compared to the normal computers and its power consumption is also lower. The improved power consumption efficiency is due to the fact that the Hard Disk Drive in the computer need not be turned on when the ThumbDrive® Portable OS is in use.

Going forward, as the technology for the ThumbDrive® Portable OS develops further, the device is expected to incorporate encryption feature to address the higher security needs of the users.

ThumbDrive® 0.85-inch Hard Disk Drive
This is a portable USB enabled hard disk drive with capacities ranging from 2GB – 4GB with a smaller form factor when compared to the 2.5 inch and 1.8 inch hard disk drives that are currently being used in the market. The function, size and reliability of the ThumbDrive® 0.85 Hard Disk Drive is the same as the normal ThumbDrive®. The advantage lies in its cost efficiency as the cost of the device would be about 15% - 20% lower. The power consumption of this device is also approximately 50% lower than that of the existing hard disk drive.

New High Speed ThumbDrive®
The new high speed ThumbDrive® will have a reading speed of 30 MB per second and a writing speed of 27 MB per second. This is almost twice the speed of the fastest ThumbDrive® currently available in the market with a reading speed of 17MB per second and a writing speed of 14 MB per second.

As the sizes of files transferred gets increasingly larger, it is necessary to increase the reading and writing speed of the ThumbDrive® failing which the user will need to devote a long time to transfer large files. This new ThumbDrive® will significantly reduce the time to copy and increase the speed of file transfer for the user.

Commenting on the series of new solutions introduced to the market today, Mr Henn Tan, Chairman and CEO of Trek said: “At Trek we only believe in developing killer applications that are both patentable and commercially viable. As the number of solutions patented rises, we are now in a position to develop increasingly powerful solutions by combining a series of different solutions with different capabilities that can respond to different needs of corporations or sophisticated IT users. ”

The new solutions introduced today will not have any significant impact on the Group’s performance in the current financial year.
