Broadening
patent protection boosts Trek 2000's global client base / New contract
awarded
The
Board of Directors of Trek 2000 International Ltd ("Trek"
or the "Company") is pleased to announce developments
relating to the Group's patent applications in the US, Malaysia,
Japan and Singapore, as well as the new contract from Memorex Products,
Inc.
Design
Patent Applications Approved
The
Group has recently received approval for the ThumbDrive design patents
for both its generic portable data storage device as well as the
Biometric ThumbDrive, the latest model that was launched by the
Group in 2001 from the US, Malaysia, Japan and Singapore. Given
the size of the IT consumer market as well as the technological
advancements especially in leading IT countries like the US and
Japan, this is an encouraging development for the Group.
The
approval of the product design, while not fully preventing clones
in the market, will also certainly discourage product clones in
consideration of the legal implications surrounding the design patents.
New
Contract Awarded
Memorex
Products, Inc. ("Memorex"), the industry sales leader
of digital optical storage products, has selected Trek's ThumbDrive
Smart mobile storage device technology for its entrance into
the flash storage market. This is in recognition of the intellectual
property rights surrounding the Group's renowned ThumbDrive solutions.
Although
the Group's distribution network in the US will be strengthened
and enlarged, this transaction is not expected to have a impact
on the consolidated net tangible assets and earnings per share of
the Company and the Group for the current financial year.
None
of the directors or controlling shareholders of the Company has
any interest, direct or indirect, in the above transaction.
